Easter holiday family fun at Discover Bucks Museum and Roald Dahl Children’s Gallery

Join Discover Bucks Museum and Roald Dahl Children’s Gallery for a fantastic line-up of family fun Easter activities, including The Sand Dragon: Puppet Show & Puppet Making Workshop. Get hands-on with egg-cellent Science and step back in time with our Anglo-Saxons workshops for an unforgettable experience. With even more hands-on fun to discover, there’s something for everyone to enjoy! Plus enjoy our Easter Egg Trail on every day of the holidays.
Monday 7 April and 14 April – Eggcellent Science
Take part in our best-selling Easter science workshop as we delve deep into egg-related science: learn to dissolve an egg-shell, make a bouncy egg and more.
£7 per child+1 free adult. £3 for each additional adult
Timings:10.15am-11.15am, 12.15pm-1.15pm and 2.15pm-3.15pm

Tuesday 8 April – Hatch A Dinosaur
Make your very own cuddly dinosaur toy, paint a dinosaur egg and decorate a nest for them to hatch in.
£4 per participant.

Wednesday 9 April – Bucks Back In Time: Anglo-Saxons
Step back into Anglo-Saxon Bucks with our hands-on family workshop: try your hand at wattle and daub, weave your own lucet cord, try out using natural Saxon dyes and more.

Thursday 10 April – Make A Pinhole Camera
How did photography work before modern cameras? Make your very own pinhole camera, create a picture using the cyanotype method and experiment with shadow portraits.

Friday 11 April – Matilda’s Brilliant Bookbags
Decorate your very own Matilda inspired bookbag to take home. This activity is part of our 2025 Aylesbury Children’s Book Festival.

Wednesday 16 April – The BFG’s Dream Bottles
Make up a wondercrump dream inspired by the BFG and create your very own dream bottle to take it home in. This event is part of our 2025 Aylesbury Children’s Book Festival.

Thursday 17 April – The Sand Dragon: Puppet Show & Puppet Making Workshop
While on holiday Edie and her Daddy find a magical pebble on the beach that can grant you one wish. Can you guess what Edie wished for? Join Theatrix Arts to experience this magical story- be ready for songs, a host of puppets and even a magic trick or two! After the show, you’ll have the chance to meet the puppets and create your very own Sand Dragon Puppet.
£10 per child + 1 free adult, £5 per additional adult
Timings: 11am-12.45pm and 2pm-3.45pm

Friday 18 April – Eggcellent Egg-Hunters
Hunt for Easter eggs in the oldest building in Aylesbury: explore our museum, complete Easter challenges and earn yourself a sweet reward.

Sunday 20 April – Easter Biscuits
Decorate a delicious Easter biscuit to take home.

✨Light Fantastic – the science of optics
Discover eye-boggling and brain-baffling exhibits! Investigate optical illusions and find out how images merge into moving pictures and how your brain influences what you see.
The Light Fantastic science exhibits will be in the exhibition space where you will also find displayed the wonderful entries and competition winners in our Bucks Photography Exhibition.

Come and Play, Discover, Learn! In the Roald Dahl Children’s Gallery
We’re also home to the famous Roald Dahl Children’s Gallery, a space bursting with interactive displays and engaging activities inspired by Roald Dahl’s wonderful stories that encourage learning through play. Children can step inside the Giant Peach, explore sound with the BFG and crawl through Fantastic Mr Fox’s tunnel. They can appear in their own drawings on TV and even freeze their own shadows! Come along and explore for yourselves.
Discover Bucks Museum and Roald Dahl Children’s Gallery are now open on Sundays 12pm – 4pm!
