Revolting Rhymes Storytelling

Listen to the Museum’s expert storytellers read from Revolting Rhymes, Roald Dahl’s book of re-written fairytales. This book is filled with revolting rhymes — be warned: It’s no ordinary ‘once upon a time’.

Buzzwangling Beast Battlecards Trail
Saturday 21 to Sunday 29 October
Celebrate 40 years of the book Dirty Beasts and hunt for battlecards around the Museum. You’ll find out about 8 awesome animals and make your own set of battlecards to play with.

Create a Clay Critter
Monday 23 October, Tuesday 24 October and Wednesday 25 October
10.30am, 11.30am, 12.30pm, 1.30pm 2.30pm and 3.30pm
There are so many villainous creatures in Roald Dahl’s tales from the Enormous Crocodile (who eats children!) to the Gruncher (a fire-breathing monster who eats anyone and anything!). Find out more about the fairytale roots of these larger-than-life beastly baddies, before getting your hands messy and making a clay sculpture of your favourite villain to take home.
£4 per person plus Museum entry. Suitable for age 5 and up (age 2 to 5 will still be charged). Approx 45 minutes.
Boggled Box Beasts
Thursday 26 October and Friday 27 October
11am, 12pm, 2pm and 3pm
Roald Dahl loved to write about all sorts of beasts including some rather naughty giants in The BFG. In our junk modelling session, you will make your own crodswolloping creature, using lots of junk modelling materials. You can also add different patterns and textures for amazing effects!
£4 per person plus Museum entry. Suitable for age 5 and up (age 2 to 5 will still be charged). Approx 45 minutes.
Buzzwangling walk
Tuesday 24 and Thursday 26 October
11.30am and 2pm
Stretch your legs and explore the picture-perfect village of Great Missenden, the place that inspired so many of the stories. Your guide will lead you out of the Museum to se some of the inspirational sights, with readings from some of the books along the way.
£4 per person plus Museum entry. All ages welcome but do bear in mind that the walk lasts 45 minutes to an hour. The walk is level, with some slight inclines, it’s mostly on pavement but there are some paths that may be muddy. The Museum and Library are step free.
Under 16’s will need to be accompanied at all times. In paid workshops no more than two non-paying accompaniers per child. Adults are welcome to join in with workshops and pay to make their own.
