Bruntwood Park is situated in Cheadle, not far from Stockport. It’s also situated on the flight path for Manchester airport so if you enjoy plane spotting the aeroplanes literally fly over your head which is great to see especially when the extremely large Emirates A380 flies over..it’s quite spectacular!
Bruntwood is a family favourite of ours and we are fortunate to be able to walk there from our house.
Fun adventure playground suitable for all ages
The park has large grounds with lots of activities for families for all ages. The main attraction for our children (mainly due to their young age) is the adventure playground. We’ve enjoyed it here since both our children were babies. There’s plenty to do from baby swings and smaller climbing areas and a slide for younger children, right the way up to a zip wire, larger climbing areas and bigger slides, for the older children. A big plus on a lovely day is the sandpit – my two are always jumping around in here and right in the middle of it is a pirate ship…so you can imagine the pretend pirate adventures they have!
Last year the park also installed a fantastic new interactive running game where you have to run around hitting the various light up posts. This unfortunately isn’t working at the moment due to Covid restrictions, but it’s a definite energy burner when it is! Another bonus is in the warmer months there’s often a bouncy castle (pay per jump) and lots of grassy areas within the adventure playground for you to take a picnic rug and watch the children run around on the park.
Public toilets are also located right next to the playground – please check opening times.
BMX track
This is a big highlight for those children who love riding their bikes and enjoy a challenge! Plus, it’s free to use for adults and children as long as you are wearing the right protective clothing. The track consists of a series of small and large hills and is suitable for children from the age of 7/8 years – they must be confident in cycling as otherwise it could be quite dangerous. The track isn’t patrolled either so you must stay with your children. I would recommend not wearing shorts either as the ground is gravel so if you fall it will hurt! Kids love it though and I’m always shocked to see how high they jump and how fast they go a definite winner on a good weather day!
Pitch and Put
Bruntwood Park also offers an 18-hole par 3 pitch and putt course which sits alongside a range of trees…which isn’t good when you are constantly losing your golf balls like me! For season times and prices please visit Cheadle Golf club website.
Surrounding fields and woodland to explore
Surrounding the playground there are lots of woodland and fields to explore too, and a lovely duck pond where you can feed the ducks. We’ve seen many a Mummy duck and her chicks here over the years which the children have enjoyed.
The fields go on for miles and are particularly good if you are a family like us who enjoys playing football and frisbee! I’ve also lots of friends with dogs who will happily take them off their leads to explore.

There’s a kiosk just next to the adventure playground which serves hot and cold drinks, ice creams and snacks. If you are looking for a more substantial meal the Victorian Conservatory of the main hall has been converted into a café overlooking a beautiful woodland area with outdoor seating. Whether it’s breakfast, lunch or dinner or maybe just a coffee and cake there’s a family friendly menu, with plenty of highchairs available for younger families.
If you would prefer to take your own snacks or picnics there are plenty of picnic benches and grassy areas throughout the park too.
Top Tips
- The park can get extremely busy on a sunny day so avoid peak times.
- Always wear protective clothing on the BMX track as it’s a gravel track.
- If you know your little one loves sand – maybe take a towel and some spare clothes for the sandpit.
- Take some cash as kids ALWAYS want an ice cream even if the winter…well mine do!
- Please visit the surrounding fields if the park is too busy – they are just as fun to explore.
- Don’t forget to pay and display your ticket in the car park – the council do patrol frequently!
Finding Bruntwood Park and Parking
With the park being easily accessible there are several roads and paths which lead you into the park from all directions – suitable for dog walkers or drivers the Park is very well sign posted from all footpaths and main roads. Cheadle Hulme train station is also situated 2.5Km away, about half an hour walk, plus the park is on several bus routes from Stockport. For drivers parking consists of 2 large pay and display car parks – these can get busy on a sunny day, but we’ve never been stuck for a space.
